Our Adoption Process – From Our Home to Yours

At Fold-A-Lots Cattery, our British Shorthair kittens are much more than just cats – they're part of our family from the moment they're born.

We put a huge amount of love, time and care into raising our babies, and finding the perfect forever homes for them is incredibly important to us.

We know welcoming a new kitten into your family is an exciting time, so we've put together a little guide to explain how our adoption process works and what you can expect along the way.

Step 1 – Expressions of Interest

We don't operate a traditional waiting list.

Instead, we invite expressions of interest once our kittens reach 8 weeks of age, following their first vaccination and veterinary health check.

This allows us to ensure our babies are healthy, thriving and developing well before we begin finding their forever families.

Our expression of interest process is simply a way for us to get to know a little about you, your family and the home you can offer one of our kittens.

We put so much love into raising our babies, and we want to make sure they go to homes where they'll be just as loved, spoiled and adored as they are here.

Step 2 – Reserving Your Kitten

Once your expression of interest has been accepted and you've chosen your kitten, a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your new family member.

The remaining balance must be paid in full before your kitten is collected or transported to their new home.

Our British Shorthair kittens are generally priced between $2,500 and $3,500, depending on the individual kitten.

Step 3 – Growing Up at Fold-A-Lots

Our kittens are raised inside our family home, not in an isolated environment.

From a young age, they're surrounded by everyday household activities, people, noises and plenty of attention. They also grow up around Paris, our friendly French Bulldog!

We believe early socialisation is incredibly important in helping kittens develop into happy, confident and affectionate companions.

By the time our babies are ready to leave us, they're used to the hustle and bustle of family life and are well prepared to settle into their new homes.

Step 4 – What Your Kitten Comes With

Every Fold-A-Lots kitten receives the very best start in life.

Before leaving us, your kitten will be:

Fully vaccinated – two vaccinations
Desexed – prior to leaving our care
Microchipped – for permanent identification
Vet checked – to ensure they're healthy and ready for their new adventure
Wormed and flea treated
NZCF registered – with official pedigree papers

You'll also receive your kitten's vaccination records, microchip information and a kitten food starter pack to help make the transition to their new home easier.

Step 5 – Going Home Day!

Our kittens are generally ready to join their new families at around 14 weeks of age.

By this stage, they've been fully weaned, vaccinated, desexed and given plenty of time to develop their confidence and social skills.

We arrange collection from our Auckland home by appointment, and we ask that you bring a secure cat carrier for your kitten's journey.

For families living outside Auckland, we can also help arrange transport throughout New Zealand at the new owner's expense.

Step 6 – We're Always Here to Help

Our commitment to our kittens doesn't end when they leave our home.

We're always happy to answer questions, offer advice and help with anything from feeding and settling in to general kitten care.

We also love receiving updates and photos of our babies enjoying life with their new families!
